If you live in the state of Florida, have low income and need help paying for food, you may qualify for the Food Assistance Program (Food Stamps). The Florida Food Assistance program helps people with low-income with money to buy healthy food. To apply for Florida Food Stamps, follow the instructions below:

Florida Food Stamps Application Process

Step 1 – Florida Food Stamps Eligibility Requirements

The first thing you need to do is to determine if you are eligible to apply for food assistance. This is important because you don’t want to waste your time and effort going through the application process only to find out that you do not qualify for assistance. A lot of applicants have found this out the hard way where they go through the entire process almost to the end and then find out they missed an important requirement. They end up being denied. Click here to see our post on eligibility requirements.

Who CANNOT Apply for Food Assistance

You are not eligible for Florida Food Stamps if you have been convicted of drug trafficking, are a fleeing felon, have intentionally violated a court-ordered program, or are a student in an institution of higher education (there are exceptions if you are working, a single parent, or other special cases). Also, those who break Food Assistance Program rules on purpose and non-citizens without a qualified status are not eligible to apply.

If your household passes the Food Assistance Program’s eligibility requirements, the amount of food assistance benefits you get depends on the number of people in your household and how much money is left after certain expenses are subtracted.

The video below explains in detail what happens next after you submit your application:

You may be invited for an in-person interview, where you may have to bring documentation to support the information you provided on your application. During the interview, you will be asked questions about your household situation and verify your identity. You may also be asked to bring proof of income. After that interview, if you are approved for food stamps, you will be provided a Florida EBT Card, which you will be used to purchase food at approved locations. Here is how much food stamps you may get if you are approved. Note that it is based on the number of people in your household:
